Lamlash Accommodation
Lamlash is the largest village (in terms of population size) on the Isle of Arran, in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. The village can sometimes appear rather busy due to the presence of the only high school on the island but, generally, it is a typical, easy going, Hebridean village. It is important to note that the main medical centre is also located in Lamlash but we sincerely hope that you will not require their services!
One of the most striking things about the village of Lamlash is the distinctive Edwardian architecture but there is a great deal more to attract tourists. Situated a few miles (4m) south of Brodick, on the western coast of Arran, Lamalash makes for a great place to stay in for a vacation on the island. As the vast majority of Arran visitor attractions are in the southern part of the Island Lamlash is within easy reach of all of them. The village is also the best place to sail across to the fascinating Holy Island.
Holy Island is now owned by Tibetan Buddhists who have created a centre for world peace and health. Their eco-friendly approach is to be admired and so is the wonderful array of native trees which they have planted at the south end of the island where you will also find the lighthouse which is now a long-term retreat. Interestingly, and in complete contrast to it's current atmosphere, the island was used, by Scottish 11 Commando, as a training ground at the beginning of World War Two.
