Isle of Skye Accommodation

Portree harbour on the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides of ScotlandThe Isle of Skye is one of the most popular islands of the Hebrides. Often abbreviated to simply Skye the island is the largest in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The main attractions of the island are usually associated with the rich culture & history as well as the spectacular scenery. Many folk know of the islands from such things as the Sky Boat Song and the flight of Bonnie Prince Charlie after the failed attempt to regain the English & Scottish throne for his father (1745). Few folk would deny the fact that Skye is a romantic island and the common occurrence of mist adds to the mystique and charm. In fact mist is so common that the Gealic name "Eilean a' Cheò" is translated as the "Island of Mist" or "Misty Isle".

Skye is in the heartland of the Gaelic speaking people of Scotland and as such the culture is vastly different to other places in the United Kingdom. Many places, including street names, are now in the Gaelic and road signs are also in the language - though, thankfully, they usually also feature English translations below.
