The Isle of Arran is often grouped in with the islands of the Inner Hebrides even though it is situated south, of the other islands of that group, in the Firth of Clyde. Gaelic is an ancient language that you will likely hear spoken on the Isle of Arran and many people find themselves intimidated by it, there is simply no need, do not be afraid to speak English to anybody as virtually all Gaelic speakers also speak English fluently and only converse in their native tongue when talking amongst friends. As you travel around the island you may begin to notice some of the remaining Celtic and Norse influences which help create a most mystical atmosphere in such places as one of the stone circles, or Bronze Age sites. on Machrie Moor (pictured to the left).
